As the founding headmaster of a boys school, Alun Ebenezer is perfectly suited to write a book for young men. In 30 short chapters this little book encourages young men to embrace their masculinity, swim against the current tide of gender-confusion, and act as real Biblical men. Ever down-to-earth and practical Alun Ebenezer taps into some really relevant issues as well as addressing important doctrinal truths and gives clear Biblical guidance throughout (in the form of daily ‘actions’). Here are some snippets from Chapter 12: ‘Think’…
Reading is important, but it’s not enough. Finishing your daily Bible reading as quickly as possible – like it is some burdensome chore standing between you and the rest of your day – simply won’t cut it. Indeed, reading the Bible should not be seen as something that Christians have to do. Rather, it’s an opportunity to hear what God has to say. The Bible is the Word of God, a living book…
To really benefit from the Scriptures, we need to think about, or meditate on, what we are reading. The psalmist writes “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night” (Ps. 1:1-2 NKJV). We need to truly meditate on the Bible and let it change the way we think and act. (Josh. 1:8; Ps. 119:11; Rom. 12:2)…
It may be helpful to think of your Bible as your hand. It has four fingers: Read, Study, Listen and Memorize. It also has a thumb, the most important, which is Meditate. The Hebrew word for meditate means ‘mumble’. As you read the Scriptures, mumble to yourself – have a conversation with your Bible. It is a living book, the Word of God, so as you read it, picture God speaking to you. Ask questions and really think about what it says. Grow to love your Bible and let it transform you.
