Committed to free grace books and quality service

Our story begins over fifty years ago.

From the attic of his home in Sheffield, Norman Roe began distributing books for Gospel Tidings Publications and Zoar Publications, which were mainly Baptist and Puritan reprints. These were sent far and wide in those days, even to exotic sounding places like Kalamazoo in the USA! Later, in 1983, when premises became available in Ossett, he opened this bookshop, which is now run by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Lorna. We have been privileged to run the bookshop for over twenty years, and have seen vast changes in the bookselling world, yet the Lord has preserved us in business so that we can pursue our vision of bringing together the best of Christian books into one place.

We are one of the last independent Christian bookshops left in Yorkshire, and certainly the last one committed to supplying Reformed (Calvinistic) literature as well as more general evangelical books. Whilst we champion Baptist authors, we showcase many others also who exalt the truths of free and sovereign grace. We believe that this is the best expression of biblical Christianity.

We have taken great pains to assemble books that are not easily available otherwise in the UK. US publishers such as Baptist Standard Bearer, Gospel Mission, Particular Baptist Press, Inheritance Publications, Free Grace Press and Joshua Press are all represented. We believe that we are the only stockist of John Gill’s Bible Commentary in this country. In terms of the UK, we cover a range from the larger evangelical book publishers, but again have a focus upon our niche market with books from Gospel Standard Publications, Grace Publications, Parresia, Ettrick Press, Huntingtonian Press and Go Publications amongst others.

You will notice that more than half of our books are secondhand or antiquarian. Therefore we can provide you with a one stop shop for all your book requirements, thus minimising postage costs.

Finally, we stock a small range of quality UK sourced gift items as well as greetings cards. Why not add these into your basket as well!

If you wish to visit us, our location just off junction 40 of the M1 near it’s intersection with the M62 makes us easily accessible if you are in the north of England. We have free parking to the rear of the shop, and toilets and light refreshments are available.
