Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus. A Devout Muslim Encounters Christianity

Sometimes I grab a biography from our secondhand bookshelves as some ‘light’ reading. This one proved to be more than just a biography, this is an indepth analysis of the historical accuracy of the Quran against the historical accuracy of the Bible.

Nabeel, a devoted Muslim and clearly a highly intelligent young man, was determined to prove a Christian friend wrong in their many debates over faith issues. But in his search for the truth he was brought to see the falsehoods he had learnt as facts during his upbringing, and the realities of the Gospel as set out in the Bible were made personally real to him.

What particularly struck me in this book was the knowledge and faithfulness of Nabeel’s Christian friend. He was able to answer Nabeel’s desire for intellectual accuracy with clear facts about the authenticity of the Bible. This was crucial in Nabeel’s first steps towards trusting the Bible as a historically accurate manuscript. This combative friendship was clearly directed and used of the Lord and the Holy Spirit worked mightily in breaking down barriers and revealing truths.

I found this an inspiring and humbling account of the change wrought in a man who was brought to a very real choice between God and family. For anyone who has a lot of contact with Muslims, this book gives really fascinating and helpful insights into their culture, their integration in the Western world and their core beliefs. Be encouraged that simple friendship and faithful Christian witness can be used of the Lord to draw these people to himself.
