Though she was one of the most published females of the eighteenth century, Anne Dutton is not well-known today. From a remote village in England, she authored over fifty works and published hundreds of letters, demonstrating a combination of theological acumen, spiritual wisdom, and fervent piety that came to be appreciated on both sides of the Atlantic during the Evangelical Awakening. This volume contains forty selections from the primary theological treatises in Anne Dutton’s corpus. Each excerpt was chosen for its representative value with the goal of providing a window into her theology as a Calvinistic Baptist heavily influenced by the experimental piety of the English Puritans. In her own words, Dutton wrote “for the good of souls and the glory of God.” May such worthy goals be realized in the years ahead as a new generation of readers engages with her works.
