Drawing on his ability to sketch in words the narratives of Scripture and then make telling applications, F W Krummacher (1796-1868) takes a number of key passages throughout the Bible that focus on the Lord Jesus Christ as the representative of his people. Applications are made to challenge the unbeliever and to encourage believers to recognise all that they are ‘in Christ.’ In some instances the retelling of an account may appear fanciful, but Krummacher’s embellishments are always with a view to driving home an important application derived directly from the text itself.
