Peter Martyr Vermigli (1499-1562), simply known as Martyr, was an Italian, and former Augustinian monk, who left behind a position of prominence in the Roman Catholic Church to join the Protestant reformation cause in exile from his native country. Although comparatively little known now, he was a friend of Bucer, Bullinger and Cranmer after holding teaching positions variously at Basel, Strasburg and Oxford. In fact the last letter that Cranmer wrote before his martyrdom was to him. This is a beautifully illustrated book, with many additional facts about the Reformation.
