George Harding (1809-1892) was a founding member of the Strict and Particular Baptist church at Swanwick Shore, located on the east side of the Hamble valley, in Hampshire. In his youth, Harding was troubled about the doctrine of election. That is, the salvation of the sons of men is by the free grace of God alone, and that there is nothing of creature merit involved in this divine operation. But, the Lord was pleased to show him the truth of divine sovereignty, and bring into his soul the sincere desire to make his own calling and election sure, even as he tried to gather together whay he felt were evidences against this vital doctrine!
This book contains Mr Harding’s own account of his spiritual experience, together with extracts from his diary, an account of his last days written by his daughter, several original hymns, and some of Mr Harding’s correspondence. Also included, and in publication for the first time, a letter from the Swanwick Shore chapel archives, written by Mr Harding to Mr J C Philpot, concerning the opening of the chapel, plus Mr Philpot’s reply.
