Reflections on life and ministry by Rev Douwe Van Dijk (1887 – 1985) of the Dutch Reformed church. He was a delegate to the famous synod in Utrecht in 1943 that made a series of decisions which triggered the ‘Liberation’ – the rupture in the Reformed churches of the Netherlands when a number of them threw off the synodical yoke and again exercised their liberty in Christ. Van Dijk tells the story of that fateful time as one who was there, but this book is more than a retelling of those events, it is also a description of his personal journey and the great changes that he witnessed in church and community life from the early 1900s to the post war years.
