John Gadsby (son of William) produced this very informative, personal ‘encyclopaedia’ of the principal hymnwriters of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. He mainly intended it to act as a companion to Gadsby’s hymnbook, and thus concentrated mainly on those hymnwriters whose hymns are to be found there. A useful index is included.
