These are ‘gathered fragments’ of the life of this Particular Baptist pastor (1808 – 1879) of Providence Chapel, West Street, Croydon. The chapel was built during his ministerial labours there. He was born in this town, and most of his life and work was confined to this locality. However he was given assurance of faith through a sermon of William Gadsby’s whilst in London. He was also in contact with John Warburton and John Kershaw.
This account also includes some of his pithy sayings and letters. It originally appeared in ‘The Sower’ magazine.
