Volume 3 of 3 in the series. Thomas Watson is one of the liveliest of the puritans, but his typical style and structure can hinder modern readers. Hamilton Smith has endeavoured to make Watson more accessible to a first time reader. What makes this attempt so interesting and helpful is that gleanings have been drawn together and organised under topical headings, eg. Warnings, giving, contentment, temptation, praying etc. The original text has been retained, with occasional explanatory footnotes. It would have been helpful to have the source of the quotes cited, but this is a minor blot on a rich tapestry of spiritual wisdom.
