Who were Adam and Eve and why does it matter whether they really existed? The author setting out to answer this question is Professor of Old Testament at Covenant Theological Seminary, St Louis. Hence his approach is Lutheran. He engages with both theologians and scientists, and studies ancient Mesopotamian texts with a view to critically examining the questions of the biblical account of human origins. He concludes in favour of the traditional view, albeit as a ‘best fit’ scenario, and affirms the dignity of mankind.
