Joseph Hall DD (1574-1656) was Bishop of Norwich until the Civil War and is an example of a godly churchman on the side of the King. He wrote a series of meditations, or ‘Contemplations’, on the historical passages in the Bible. Volume 1 includes a biographical sketch and the Contemplations from the Old Testament.
