This is a warm and enthusiastic new biography of a lesser known C19th preacher and evangelist. A man who spent much of his life prodigally, then was turned around by grace, and immediately set out on a ministry which would become extensive and powerful. He was recognised by the Free Church of Scotland in the capacity of evangelist, given the right hand of fellowship, and thus their pulpits were open to his ministry, as also in other Presbyterian churches across the UK. He preached to thousands in his career and many were converted. Geoff Thomas examines his methods and the emphases of his ministry with care and profitable reflection, although he sympathises with his undoubted free offer preaching.
