Ernest Roe (1883 – 1967) was a minister among the Strict Baptists for over 65 years. He began preaching at 17 years old and held several pastorates, including at Brixton Tabernacle, London, from 1922 – 1931. In this first volume of the two volume set there are 44 sermons, originally published monthly as ‘The Brixton Tabernacle Pulpit’. Here are sermons of great depth and doctrinal clarity, yet there is something ‘for babes as well as for fathers’. Incisive and searching preaching, warning again and again of the danger of a nominal rather than a heart religion, but without discouragement to seekers. He points tenderly to Christ with gospel warmth. Suitable for reading services in public worship as well as for personal profit.
