In an age when the institution and sanctity of marriage is continually being attacked, it is more important than ever to restate and reaffirm the Bible’s teaching on this subject. This book consists of a sermon preached in 1820 by William Gadsby, originally entitled The Nature and Design of the Marriage Union. In it, Gadsby clearly teaches the Biblical principles of marriage in a direct and pastoral manner. He describes the love and care which should characterise all true marriages, outlines the damaging effects of breaking this union, and concludes with a wonderful depiction of the union between Christ and the church of which marriage is designed to be a representation. Included at the end are a selection of Gadsby’s poetical pieces on marriage, written in his characteristic style. This book will be particularly valuable for young people considering and preparing for marriage, and a blessing to all God’s people as they meditate with Gadsby on the love of Christ for his bride.
